President Ibrahim Mohmed Solih has assured the councilors of Raiymandhoo island in Meemu atoll that the issues the island residents face, will be addressed.
The president met with the island’s council and Women’s Development Committee (WDC) members as part of his ongoing tour of Meemu atoll, which began on Saturday morning.
As such, the president visited Raiymadhoo Island as a first of five islands, as part of the tour.
The discussions revolved around ongoing development work on the island as well as the needs of the community.
The meeting saw councilors highlighting that the incumbent administration has initiated an unforeseen amount of development projects, with which they expressed gratitude to the president.
Noting that the community’s biggest issue remained the lack of a water and sewerage system, the council members expressed gratitude to the president for initiating projects to address these concerns.
Further, the president was briefed on the concerns and challenges facing the island community including the need for harbor development, coastal erosion and halting of services at the laboratory in the healthcare center alongside challenges facing the education sector due to the low student count in the island.
Listening to these concerns, President Solih assured the councilors that he will seek ways to find amicable solutions to the issues raised at the meeting, especially those related to the harbor and coastal erosion.
President Solih will be touring five islands of Meemu atoll during the two-day visit.
As such, the president will touch down at Raiymandhoo, Maduvvari, Dhiggaru, Veyvah as well as Muli during the tour.
He is accompanied by a high-level delegation of government officials.
The President’s Office revealed that during the visits, the president will be inspecting the progress of the ongoing development projects in these islands.
President Solih will participate in the ceremony marking the conclusion of the shore protection project in Dhiggaru island, as well as the ceremony to officially inaugurate the harbor and powerhouse in Veyvah island.
He will also sit down with members of the Meemu Atoll Council, island councils and Women’s Development Committees of the respective islands.
President Solih is expected to return to the capital on August 29, after concluding the visit.
