The Maldivian president has arrived in India on an official visit.
President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih departed to India on Monday morning and touched down in the afternoon.
Upon arrival at the Receptorium Air Force Station in Palam, New Delhi, the Maldivian president and his delegation were received by Dr. Sanjeev Kumar Balyan, the Indian Minister of State for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, and senior officials of the Indian External Affairs Ministry.
The president and Maldivian delegation were greeted with a traditional performance.
The visit comes upon the invitation of India’s Prime Minister, Narendra Modi.
During the visit, scheduled from August 1 – 4, the president will engage in numerous high-level discussions with the Indian government.
The discussions carry the purpose of further solidifying the strong friendship and development partnership between Maldives and India.
A delegation of senior government officials and representatives of leading businesses are accompanying President Solih in visit.
The Maldivian president’s visit symbolizes the close relationship between the two countries.
The neighboring country has been an important partner in the island nation’s socioeconomic development.
The Indian government has assisted in a number of key development projects initiated by the Maldivian government, as a result of this partnership.
