Vice President Faisal Naseem has concluded his official visit to the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
The Vice President departed to Dubai earlier this week, to attend the World Government Summit 2022.
During his four-day visit, VP Naseem signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on behalf of the Maldivian government on the Exchange of Experience on Government Development and Modernization, with the Minister of Cabinet Affairs of UAE, Mohamed Al Gerawi.
The signing ceremony was held on the sidelines of the World Government Summit 2022, which the Maldivian delegation led by VP Naseem attended on Tuesday. The governments of Maldives and UAE signed the agreement titled “Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Government of the Republic of Maldives and the Government of the United Arab Emirates on Experience Exchange on Government Development and Modernization” on Tuesday.
The agreement mirrors a “pivotal” point of progress in bilateral relations between the two countries, says the President’s Office. According to the President’s Office, the MoU is centered on UAE aiding Maldives to build institutional capacity, as well as to help Maldives modernize its governance framework.
Further more , the trip also saw discussions held on improving collaboration between both countries on environmental issues, between VP Naseem and Minister of Climate Change and Environment of the UAE Mariam bint Mohammed Saeed Hareb Almheiri on Tuesday.
The meeting saw the UAE Minister extensively discussing ways to improve collaboration with Maldives, on environmental issues.
Further, VP Naseem also extended an invitation for her to visit the Maldives.
He also toured the pavilions at Expo 2020 Dubai.
During the tour, he explored the pavilions of Maldives and Saudi Arabia.
The Maldivian Pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai features how nature and life co-exist , by implementing sustainable practices that address climate change and in synchrony with nature.
VP Naseem joined a ‘Maahefun’ – a traditional feast held to celebrate the upcoming fasting month of Ramadan – during the tour.
He also met and talked with the Maldivian residents, who attended the event.
Taking visitors on a journey through four major pillars including people, nature, heritage and opportunities, the Saudi Arabia Pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai provides a glimpse into the shared future.
He was accompanied on the trip by Minister of Environment, Climate Change, and Technology Aminath Shauna and the Secretary of Foreign Relations at the President's Office Ibrahim Hood.
