A significant agreement has been signed between the Maldives and United Arab Emirates (UAE), as part of Vice President Faisal Naseem’s ongoing visit to UAE.

The governments of Maldives and UAE signed the agreement titled “Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Government of the Republic of Maldives and the Government of the United Arab Emirates on Experience Exchange on Government Development and Modernization” on Tuesday.

The signing ceremony was held on the sidelines of the World Government Summit 2022, which the Maldivian delegation led by VP Naseem attended on Tuesday .

The agreement mirrors a “pivotal” point of progress in bilateral relations between the two countries, says the President’s Office.

The agreement was signed by VP Naseem on behalf of the Maldivian government, with the Minister of Cabinet Affairs Mohamed Al Gerawi signing on behalf of the middle-eastern country.

According to the President’s Office, the MoU is centered on UAE aiding Maldives to build institutional capacity , as well as to help Maldives modernize its governance framework.

VP Naseem is currently on an official trip to UAE, accompanied by Minister of Environment, Climate Change, and Technology Aminath Shauna and the Secretary of Foreign Relations at the President's Office Ibrahim Hood.
