Adam Maznavee Jaufer Sadiq, the new High Commissioner of Sri Lanka to Maldives, has presented his credentials to President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.
High Commissioner Sadiq presented his Letters of Credence to the Maldivian President during a ceremony held at the President’s Office on Tuesday morning.
The pair engaged in official discussions afterwards, which revolved around a wide array of topics including the enhancement of economic cooperation, education and agricultural development.
Congratulating the new High Commissioner on his appointment, the Maldivian President shed the spotlight on the existing bilateral relations between the two countries.
Shedding light on the human resource development front, President Solih expressed hope that the Government of Sri Lanka will consider a proposal to waive off visa fees for Maldivian students under the age of 18, which he described as a move that would provide great relief for Maldivian families residing in Sri Lanka.
They also touched down on the ongoing COVID-19 situation and the latest updates regarding the COVID-19 inoculation drive in both countries.
Extending greetings on the occasion of the 74th Independence Day to the government and the people of Sri Lanka, celebrated on February 4, the President recalled fond memories of his successful visit to Sri Lanka in November 2021.
During the visit, the Maldivian President held discussions with the President of Sri Lanka, Gotabaya Rajapaksa on further solidifying relations between the two countries.
Describing Sri Lanka as one of the significant partners of the Maldives, President Solih extended his sincere gratitude to the Sri Lankan government for the cooperation and assistance provided to the Maldives throughout the years.
The call was concluded with the Maldivian President and Sri Lankan High Commissioner reiterating their commitment to further strengthen the existing relations between the two countries in the coming years.
Diplomatic relations between Maldives and Sri Lanka were established on 26 July 1965.
