Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Türkiye has concluded his official visit to the Maldives.
The visit came upon the invitation of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Maldives and President of the 76th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), Abdulla Shahid, who received his Turkish counterpart at Velana International Airport (VIA) on January 28.
He was seen off at the airport by FM Shahid and senior officials at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The visit saw the Turkish minister paying a courtesy call on the Maldivian president, Ibrahim Mohamed Solih as well as Speaker of Parliament and Former President Mohamed Nasheed.
Official talks were also held with his counterpart, FM Shahid.
Further, the visit also saw the signing of a number of key agreements between the two countries. The Memorandums of Understanding were linked to areas of trade and economic cooperation, agriculture, culture and cooperation between the Foreign Service Institute of Maldives and the Diplomacy Academy of Türkiye.
This was the first time a foreign minister of Turkey visited the Maldives.
Maldives and Turkey established diplomatic relations on 28 May 1979.
Appointed foreign minister of Turkey during November 2015, Çavuşoğlu also filled the ministerial position between August 2014 and August 2015.
