Maldives Covid-19 death toll has been pushed to 270.
The Health Protection Agency (HPA) revealed that the latest victim has been identified as a 42-year-old local woman who was being treated in the Intensive Care Unit of Hulhumalé Medical Facility.
She was pronounced dead by doctors at 03:01am on Sunday.
This comes just three days after the last Covid-19 fatalities were reported, with the passing of a 63-year-old woman at Hulhumalé Medical Facility, a 79-year-old man from Laamu Covid Management Facility, another man aged 76 from Addu Covid Management Facility and an 84-year-old man aged 84. All of them were locals and succumbed to complications of the virus on January 20.
This has pushed the number of Covid-19 victims reported so far in 2022 to eight.
The island nation reported the highest number of deaths in a single month since the pandemic began, during May 2021, when a total of 88 deaths were confirmed. 50 deaths were confirmed in June last year while 10 deaths were reported in July. In August, five Covid-19 patients succumbed to the virus, September also saw five Covid-19 fatalities. 12 Covid-19 fatalities were reported in October followed by seven in November. December also saw 12 Covid-19 fatalities.
212 Covid-19 victims were reported last year.
