Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid has exchanged views on further strengthening the long-standing relations between Maldives and India, with the High Commissioner of India to Maldives, Munu Mahawar.

The Indian High Commissioner paid a courtesy call on the Maldives foreign minister on Tuesday, where the latter congratulated Mahawar and welcomed him to the country.

They went on to exchange views on further elevating the longstanding relations of both countries and review the ongoing development projects funded through Indian assistance as well as other cooperation programmes coordinated between Maldives and India.

The meeting also saw FM Shahid and HC Mahawar expressing satisfaction on the key milestones achieved in the relationship between Maldives and India, during the last three years under the administration of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.

FM Shahid also extended his sincere gratitude to the Indian government for the generous assistance provided during the challenging times of Covid-19, highlighting that India has always been a country Maldives can always rely on “in any time of need”.

Thanking the foreign minister for the warm welcome, HC Mahawar assured his on his strong commitment to work closely with the government of Maldives to strengthen the close relations between the two governments.
