President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has forwarded the nomination of Aishath Azeema to the People's Majlis for the position of new Maldivian High Commissioner to India.

Muizzu has decided to appoint Azeema to the position to replace Ibrahim Shaheeb, whose term as High Commissioner of Maldives to India is coming to an end.

Her nomination was sent to the People’s Majlis on Monday.

The floor has since accepted it and forwarded the nomination to the Foreign Relations Committee for review.

Azeema, who joined the Ministry of Foreign affairs in 1988, has previously served as the Maldivian Ambassador to China.

Further, other positions she has served include Deputy Ambassador at the Maldivian Embassy in London, UK, as well as Additional Secretary and Joint Secretary at the Foreign Ministry.
