Maldives Covid-19 death toll has been pushed to 262.
The Health Protection Agency (HPA) revealed that the 262nd victim was identified as a Maldivian woman 86 years of age.
She was pronounced dead by doctors at the health center in Vilufushi island of Thaa atoll, at 5:30am on Tuesday.
This is the 12th Covid-19 fatality of December and comes less than a week after the last victim was reported; a 66-year-old Maldivian man who was being treated at Gaaf Dhaal Covid Management Facility before being pronounced dead by doctors at 10:50pm on December 22.
The island nation reported the highest number of deaths in a single month since the pandemic began, during May 2021, when a total of 88 deaths were confirmed. 50 deaths were confirmed in June while 10 deaths were reported in July. In August, five Covid-19 patients succumbed to the virus, September also saw five Covid-19 fatalities. 12 Covid-19 fatalities were reported in October followed by seven in November.
212 Covid-19 victims have been reported so far this year.
