Dredging operations for the harbor development project in Felivaru island of Lhaviyani atoll, have commenced.

The Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) revealed that they mobilized the cutter suction dredger – Jarraafa2 – at the Felivaru project site and began dredging operations on Tuesday.

According to MTCC, the scope of the project includes dredging and reclaiming 179,780.40 cubic-meters of land, constructing a 218.9 meter inner quay wall as well as the construction of a rock boulder breakwater measuring 574.6 meters.

Further it includes a 264.8-meter sheet pile, rock boulder revetment as well as the construction of a pavement measuring 2,466 square-meters.

Valued at MVR 113.39 million, the project was contracted to the company by the Ministry of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure on January 20. The project was mobilized on March 13.

MTCC’s Adam Azim signed on behalf of the company while Director General of the ministry, Fathmath Shana Farooq signed on behalf of the government.

MTCC revealed that the project is estimated to be wrapped up within 365 days.
