Maldives has confirmed the fourth death linked to Covid-19, reported this month.
The Health Protection Agency (HPA) confirmed the death of a Maldivian woman early Sunday.
The deceased has been identified as a 77-year-old who was receiving treatment at Hulhumalé Medical Facility before being pronounced dead by doctors at around 6:29am on Sunday.
With the latest death, the country’s coronavirus death toll has risen to 254.
This comes a day after the last deaths were reported, when a 93-year-old receiving treatment at the Kudahuvadhoo Atoll Hospital in Dhaalu atoll and a 92-year-old Covid-19 patient from Thuraakunu island in Haa Alif atoll succumbed to complications of the virus on Saturday morning.
Of the 254 deaths linked to coronavirus reported in the Maldives so far, 204 have been reported so far this year.
The island nation reported the highest number of deaths in a single month since the pandemic began, during May 2021, when a total of 88 deaths were confirmed. 50 deaths were confirmed in June while 10 deaths were reported in July. In August, five Covid-19 patients succumbed to the virus, September also saw five Covid-19 fatalities. 12 Covid-19 fatalities were reported in October followed by seven in November
Maldives reported its first Covid-19 fatality in April 2020.
