The first Covid-19 victim of the ongoing month, has been confirmed on the very first day.
The Health Protection Agency (HPA) confirmed the death of a 79-year-old Maldivian woman at around 2:55pm on Wednesday.
The victim was being treated at the Fuvahmulah Covid Management Facility before being pronounced dead by doctors on Wednesday afternoon.
With the first Covid-19 fatality of December, the total number of deaths linked to Covid-19 in the Maldives has been pushed to 251.
This comes just two days after the latest Covid-19 deaths were reported, identified as a 54-year-old woman and 90-year-old man, both locals.
Of the 251 deaths linked to coronavirus reported in the Maldives so far, 201 have been reported so far this year.
The island nation reported the highest number of deaths in a single month since the pandemic began, during May 2021, when a total of 88 deaths were confirmed. 50 deaths were confirmed in June while 10 deaths were reported in July. In August, five Covid-19 patients succumbed to the virus, September also saw five Covid-19 fatalities. 12 Covid-19 fatalities were reported in October followed by seven in November
Maldives reported its first Covid-19 fatality in April 2020.
