Councilors of Vaikaradhoo island in Haa Dhaal atoll have shared the development needs of the island community, with Vice President Faisal Naseem.

VP Naseem sat down with council members and senior institutional representatives of the island during his visit to Thiladhunmathi atoll over the weekend.

The meeting saw councilors thanking the administration of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, for the efforts to bring progress to the island. As such, the government has initiated 16 development projects on the island so far.

Councilors went on to share concerns regarding challenges in leasing land from the island as well as additional requirements for the powerhouse on the island.

VP Naseem was also briefed on the need to allocate a swimming area for residents, challenges in providing plots of land for residential use and the expedition of the 12-classroom construction project to pave way for the adoption of single-session schooling.

Joining the meeting, officials from the island’s school stressed the need for a multipurpose hall to cater for extracurricular activities.

Further, officials from the island’s health center shed light on the need for additional human resources, including a paediatrician for the health center.

Listening to these concerns, the vice president shed light on the significance of boosting the education system and the urgency of molding every child into a valuable member of society.

He went on to the highlight that the government is relentlessly working towards the benefit of the people and added that the upgrade of Kulhudhuffushi Regional Hospital will pave way for communities in the region to access tertiary healthcare services easily, without the need to travel to the Maldives congested capital, Malé City for medical services.

During his visit to Vaikaradhoo the vice president inaugurated the outdoor gym, visited the site where 12 classrooms are being constructed in the island school, visited the island’s health center and also inspected the construction of the extension building.
