The government has provided ambulances to a number of islands.
The 20 ambulance vehicles were sent to 20 islands on Saturday and the State Minister at the Ministry of Health, Ahmed Adil revealed that the vehicles were sent to islands most in need of the service.
Highlighting that ambulance services have come to a halt in 39 islands due to several issues, Adil revealed that work is currently underway to send ambulances to these islands, as soon as possible.
The 20 ambulances sent to islands on Saturday were out of 96 initially procured.
The health ministry expects to receive 20 of the remaining ambulances by the end of November, with 30 more expected to be received by year’s end.
Most of the islands spanning the archipelago nation are currently utilizing the ambulances procured by the government between 2005 – 2010.
Island communities nationwide have been expressing concern over the conditions of these vehicles. Adil revealed that these issues will be met with adequate solutions, soon.
The islands that received ambulances on Saturday are:
- Thoddoo island in Alif Alif atoll
- Bilehdhoo island in Faafu atoll
- Gaadhiffushi island in Thaa atoll
- Madifushi island in Thaa atoll
- Gemanafushi island in Gaaf Alif atoll
- Maamendhoo island in Kaafu atoll
- Dhangethi island in Alif Dhaal atoll
- Huraa island in Kaafu atoll
- Kudarikilu island in Baa atoll
- Thulhaadhoo island in Baa atoll
- Kurendhoo island in Lhaviyani atoll
- Inguraidhoo island in Raa atoll
- Miladhoo island in Noonu atoll
- Henbadhoo island in Noonu atoll
- Maroshi island in Shaviyani atoll
- Foakaidhoo island in Shaviyani atoll
- Nolhivaram island in Haa Dhaal atoll
- Makunudhoo island in Haa Dhaal atoll
- Uligan island in Haa Alif atoll
- Filladhoo island in Haa Alif atoll
