India became the champions of the biggest football carnival in the South Asia region, the “Ooredoo SAFF Championship 2021”

India took home the SAFF trophy after a resounding victory against Nepal in the finals held at the National Football Stadium on Saturday night, with a score of 3 – 0.

This is the eighth time India has won the championship and the country has been recognized the most successful competitor in the championship so far. The last time India won the title was in 2015.

Due to a suspension during the team’s last game against Maldives, Coach Igor Stimac was unable to give instructions to his team during the finals. The coach was kicked off the field after being red-carded followed by a yellow card for protesting the referee’s decisions relentlessly during the game against Maldives, which the team won 3 – 1.

Nepal’s coach Abdullah Al Mutairi was unable to take part in the finals due to a suspension as well. He was yellow-carded during the last two games in the league.

India showed a good performance into the beginning of the game, with Mohamed Yasir attempting to score in the fourth minute, which was blocked by Kiran Kumar Limbu, Nepal’s goalie. The Nepal team’s defenders blocked another attempt to score by Yasir 10 minutes in.

Although India’s star footballer Sunil Chhetri got a golden opportunity to score in the 27th minute, to no avail. Neither team was able to score in the first half.

India scored two consecutive goals into the beginning of the second half. Chhetri scored the team’s first goal four minutes into the beginning of the second half, followed by a goal from Suresh Sinha a minute later.

Sahal Abdul Samad scored the third goal for India in the additional time.

Maldives fell to the third spot in the league table after losing to India on October 13.
