Maldives has confirmed three more Covid-19 fatalities within 24 hours.
The Health Protection Agency (HPA) revealed that an 81-year-old Maldivian woman was identified as the 236th Covid-19 victim. She was being treated at the Dr. Abdul Samad Memorial Hospital in Thinadhoo island before being declared by doctors at 9:20pm on Tuesday.
Another Maldivian, an 87-year-old man passed away at around 1:31am on Wednesday, making him the 237th coronavirus victim in the Maldives.
The 235th fatality was reported at around 5:21am on Tuesday, when an 84-year-old Maldivian man being treated at the Dr. Abdul Samad Memorial Hospital succumbed to complications of the virus.
This is the fifth death linked to coronavirus having been reported from Thinadhoo island, so far.
HPA has not officially confirmed the 235th fatality.
The fatalities come less than a week since Maldives reported the last fatality, when a 72-year-old Maldivian woman succumbed to coronavirus while being treated at the Hulhumalé Medical Facility on October 9.
Of the 237 deaths linked to coronavirus reported in the Maldives so far, 187 have been reported so far this year.
The island nation reported the highest number of deaths in a single month since the pandemic began, during May 2021, when a total of 88 deaths were confirmed. 50 deaths were confirmed in June while 10 deaths were reported in July. In August, five Covid-19 patients succumbed to the virus. September also saw five deaths.
Six Covid-19 victims have been reported this ongoing month.
Maldives reported its first Covid-19 fatality in April 2020.
