Monitoring measures have been lifted from Fuvahmulah City.
In a bid to control the Covid-19 outbreak in the city, authorities first implemented monitoring measures on February 12. It was lifted on March 9. The city was placed under monitoring for a second time on May 5 and released from monitoring on August 5. However, due to spiking cases, monitoring measures were enforced a third time on August 21.
The monitoring measures were enforced at a time around 200 Covid-19 cases were confirmed in the city.
The city council revealed that despite monitoring measures being revoked, safety measures and guidelines are to be adhered to, strictly. The council will be monitoring whether or not the guidelines enforced by the Health Protection Agency (HPA) are followed by residents.
As such, the city residents are to strictly follow the social distancing and face mask rule, with events and parties discouraged by the council, for now.
A number of precautionary measures and restrictions had been implemented, alongside awareness efforts on the importance of vaccination. Healthcare authorities later implemented eases to restrictions, despite which the community has been urged to do their part to control the spread of Covid-19.
According to the latest figures publicized by HPA, there are 18 islands under monitoring currently.
Islands under monitoring are:
- Dhuvaafaru island in Raa atoll,
- Gaafaru island in Kaafu atoll,
- Mundoo island in Laamu atoll,
- Milandhoo island in Shaviyani atoll,
- Thinadhoo island in Vaavu atoll,
- Nolhivaram island in Haa Dhaal atoll,
- Hithadhoo island in Seenu atoll,
- Maradhoo island in Seenu atoll,
- Maradhoo-Feydhoo island in Seenu atoll,
- Feydhoo island in Seenu atoll,
- Hulhumeedhoo island in Seenu atoll,
- Kinolhas island in Raa atoll,
- Maalhos island in Baa atoll,
- Gulhi island in Kaafu atoll,
- Gemanafushi island in Gaaf Alif atoll,
- Maamendhoo island in Gaaf Alif atoll,
- Veymandoo island in Thaa atoll,
- Dhiyamigili island in Thaa atoll,
The island which has remained under monitoring for the longest period of time, is Dhuvaafaru. As such, it has been almost four months since the island was placed under monitoring on May 25.
