Businesses in Fuvahmulah City have been suffering irreparable and substantial losses as the city continues to grapple with an ongoing water crisis.

The entire city has faced a shortage since November 10, following the detection of quality issues in the water supplied by Fenaka Corporation to households. Despite the severity of the situation, no effective solution has been implemented so far.

Speaking on RaajjeTV’s ‘Fashaairu’ morning talk show on Wednesday, prominent local businessman Mohamed Sharafudheen said the disruption in water services has crippled business operations across the city, resulting in significant financial losses.

He highlighted that Fuvahmulah, recognized as a brand in the tourism industry, faces long-term damage to its reputation due to the ongoing crisis. The decline in service quality, he said, poses a direct threat to the city’s tourism and hospitality sectors, where maintaining high standards is essential.

Sharafudheen also criticized the city’s parliamentary representatives, stating that they appear to be prioritizing personal interests over public welfare.

He noted that citizens have been left to manage the crisis on their own and expressed the growing frustration and loss of confidence among business owners toward the current government’s handling of the situation.
