Under the government’s “Covid-19 Dhifaau” inoculation drive, a total of 4,166 persons received vaccine doses nationwide on Sunday.
According to the latest vaccination update publicized by the Health Protection Agency (HPA), Sunday’s vaccinations included 858 first doses and 3,308 second doses. 1,592 Greater Malé residents and 2,574 atoll residents were inoculated on the first day of the ongoing month.
As such, 584 residents in the capital city received first doses, the remaining 274 first doses were administered to atoll residents.
Of the second doses, 2,300 were given to atoll residents, with 1,008 administered to Malé residents.
With this development, the total number of persons who completed both vaccine doses has risen to 271,552, whereas the number of persons who have received a first dose sits at 323,568. This means that 52,016 persons are awaiting their second vaccination shots.
There are currently three mobile teams active across six vaccination centers in the capital region and 176 vaccination centers spanning outlying atolls.
The incumbent administration of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih launched the “Covid-19 Dhifaau” inoculation drive on February 1 and recently the Health Emergency Operations Center (HEOC) revealed that they are now in the final stages of the campaign and the aim is to vaccinate 90 percent of the eligible population by the end of August, according to President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.
In his address to the public in commemoration of Independence Day, President Solih revealed that the government aims to have 90 percent of the eligible population vaccinated by August. Over the past weekend HEOC kickstarted the last Covid-19 vaccination campaign or the "final push" across Maldives populous capital Malé City.
Authorities resumed administering the Oxford AstraZeneca Covishield vaccination on July 4 after months, on an appointment-basis. Vaccinations across outlying atolls are also proceeding at a swift pace. Authorities recently resumed administering second doses of Sinopharm to those who have observed three weeks since receiving the first jab.
In mid-July HEOC revealed that 50 percent of the eligible population in Maldives has been fully vaccinated against Covid-19.
