Another Covid-19 fatality has been confirmed from Dhuvaafaru island in Raa atoll.
The latest Covid-19 victim has been identified as a 52-year-old Maldivian woman by the Health Protection Agency (HPA).
The woman was pronounced dead by doctors at the Dhuvaafaru Health Center at 7:30pm on Thursday.
This has pushed the total number of deaths linked to coronavirus in the Maldives, to 221.
The 221st Covid-19 death comes three days after the latest death was reported; a 66-year-old Maldivian man who also succumbed to complications of the virus in the Dhuvaafaru Health Center.
Of the total number of deaths to Covid-19, 171 have been reported thus far in 2021.
The island nation reported the highest number of deaths in a single month since the pandemic began, during May 2021, when a total of 88 deaths were confirmed. 50 deaths were confirmed in June while 10 deaths have been reported thus far in July.
Maldives reported its first Covid-19 fatality in April 2020.
