The condition of a 20-year-old who was stabbed near the Villimalé ferry terminal in Maafannu of capital city Malé, on Monday night, is stable, his doctors have said.

The Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) early on Tuesday said that suturing had been done on three stab wounds to his chest, and that the young man is now admitted to the hospital for recovery. 

He was brought into IGMH's emergency unit, which is close to the terminal where he was attacked, and had immediately received treatment. 

A witness from reported that the man was stabbed as he deboarded the ferry, and was with his family at the time. The assault occurred at around 22:00 on Monday.

The police's media official said that they are currently investigating the attack.
