While the Health Emergency Operations Center (HEOC) had earlier this month stated that 50 percent of Maldives’ eligible population have been fully vaccinated against coronavirus, it on Wednesday revealed that 27 percent of the eligible population is yet to get a first dose.
Moreover, in his address to the public in honor of Independence Day on Tuesday, President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih affirmed that the government aims to have 90 percent of the eligible population fully vaccinated by August. He added that Maldives now has sufficient stocks to administer two doses to those who are awaiting second doses.
The incumbent administration launched the “Covid-19 Dhifaau” inoculation drive on February 1, and are to begin the last vaccination campaign or “final push” on Saturday.
