The flying school based in Addu City has opened its doors once again.
On the 24th of June, Avid College acquired ownership of the flying school from the ASAcademy of Aeronautics (AAA) and renamed it Avid School of Aviation.
Avid College declared that their first priority is to ensure that the students already enrolled, get the chance to complete their courses and that their first priority is to find a solution to the concerns expressed by the students.
Avid College Chairman, Abdulla Musthaq Rashaad, stated that Avid College is working to attain its own license, but that it will unfortunately take around six months. Therefore, the immediate needs of students will be fulfilled through the already existing license of AAA.
AAA was shut down due to them breaking multiple laws and regulations when they began utilizing “complex” planes to teach students due to the shortage of aircrafts at the academy and began to ask students to pay their fees in Dollars.
Minister for Transport and Civil Aviation, Aishath Nahula, stated that these problems had been occurring between 2015 and 2018, but 2020 was the first time it was officially submitted to the ministry.
Due to the ill-treatment of students at AAA, two officials at the school were penalized and President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih had announced that students would be given more time to repay their loans. Avid College is also working on obtaining new aircrafts for the school as the ones owned by AAA, had all been suspended.
