A further two people have died with Covid-19 in the Maldives, pushing the total deaths to 212.
The Health Protection Agency (HPA) revealed that an 81-year-old Maldivian woman passed away while receiving treatment at the GA Covid Management Facility in Villigillli island early Thursday morning.
Further, another local woman, a 90-year-old being treated at Indhira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) passed away on Wednesday night.
While Maldives’ Covid-19 death toll has risen to 212, 50 deaths were confirmed in June while one death has been reported on the first day on July.
As per the statistics released by HPA, a total of 111 deaths from Covid-19 were confirmed between April 28 and June 5 with a record number of deaths seen in May; 88 deaths.
With daily Covid-19 cases soaring above 1,000 at the start of May, authorities responded by strengthening Covid-19 precautionary measures and guidelines in place. Since then cases have been declining gradually especially in the country’s Covid-19 epicenter Male' City where 13 new cases were reported on Wednesday. Total cases confirmed across the country have been below 200 for the past few days.
Maldives has reported a total of 73,798 Covid-19 cases since the first one was detected in March 2020. And with the 69,974 recoveries recorded, there are less than 3,700 active cases across the island nation.
The latest government daily figures also show that a total of 316,847 people had a first dose of a coronavirus vaccine while 190,227 were fully vaccinated by Sunday.
