Maldives reported 341 new Covid-19 cases, as well as 2,179 recoveries on Wednesday.
160 of the 341 cases are from the country’s Covid-19 epicenter, capital Male’ City, while 153 are from residential islands and 28 from resorts.
With Wednesday’s numbers, Maldives currently has 15,621 active Covid-19 cases. The island nation has confirmed a total of 69,213 Covid-19 cases since March 2020. Further, the 2,179 recoveries reported on Sunday bring the country’s total recoveries to 53,392.
146 patients are currently admitted at hospitals across the country, six less than the previous.
The country’s total death count to Covid-19 is at 191, with two reported on Wednesday as well.
While the government began easing Covid-19 restrictions last year following a decline in cases, there has since been a spike, especially last month forcing authorities to strengthen Covid-19 restrictions especially in the capital. This includes an unofficial lockdown of the city, with a curfew imposed from 4pm to 8am and residents requiring permits to be out even during the remaining time.
President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih on Tuesday announced that the strengthened safety measures will remain for an additional week, and will be extended again if the need arises.
Since the measures were strengthened in mid-May, reported daily cases have been decreasing gradually.
