Sri Lankan Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa has inquired on the health condition of Former President and current Parliament Speaker Mohamed Nasheed, who received extensive treatment for injuries attained in an IED blast dubbed a terrorist attack targeting the speaker, on May 6.
The Sri Lankan PM telephoned the speaker's father on Tuesday to inquire about the former president's condition and wished him a speedy recovery.
RaajjeMV understands that the PM had requested to inform him should Nasheed need any assistance.
Rajapaksa is among the several foreign diplomats who wished the former president for a speedy recovery after the terrorist attack on his life.
As such, he took to Twitter following the bomb blast, stating that it was a shameful attack. He went on to note that Sri Lanka and the Sri Lankan people condemn the attack and will "always" stand against such cowardly acts.
Nasheed underwent extensive surgeries that lasted 16 hours following the explosion. He had 10 pieces of razor wedged inside his body and shrapnel removed. Doctors said that the extent of his trauma was not in the norm even for trained doctors.
Nasheed was taken off life support and is now admitted at the Critical Care Unit of ADK Hospital. Doctors have revealed that his condition will be monitored closely as there is a high risk of infection.
Three suspects including a prime suspect of the terrorist attack have been arrested thus far.
