A second Covid-19 fatality has been reported in 24 hours.
Hours after the Health Protection Agency (HPA) confirmed the death of an 85-year-old Maldivian woman native to Kinbidhoo island of Thaa atoll, being treated for Covid-19 complications at Dharumavantha Hospital, the public health authority confirmed a second Covid-19 fatality.
The deceased has been identified as a 50-year-old Indian man who was admitted at the 11th floor of Dharumavantha Hospital for treatment.
The man was pronounced dead by doctors at around 8:44pm on Wednesday.
This has been declared as the 73rd Covid-19 fatality in the island nation.
This is the sixth death linked to Covid-19 reported in the Maldives this ongoing month.
The coronavirus pandemic has claimed 25 lives in the Maldives thus far this ongoing year.
Authorities reported another death on Wednesday morning, when a 32-year-old man, also a Kinbidhoo native. The man had Covid-19 symptoms, however, authorities are yet to confirm if it was a Covid-19 death.
With an alarming spike in case count over the past few days, hospitalizations are also increasing in comparison to the past month. Currently there are 122 Covid-19 patients hospitalized for treatment.
Maldives active Covid-19 tally is currently at 4,396 with 29,052 infections having been confirmed nationwide since the pandemic surfaced in the island nation during March 2020.
