Minister of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure Mohamed Aslam has confirmed that construction will begin this year for more than 5,000 housing units.
Minister Aslam made the remarks at the foundation laying ceremony of the One Central Park Residence in Hulhumale', noting that there were 17,000 families in Male' City known to be in need of housing at this time. Minister Aslam detailed that 5,600 of these families were registered to Male', and required solutions for housing difficulties in the densely-populated capital of the Maldives.
Housing Minister Aslam assured that the One Central Park Residence building would be one of many other such housing projects that would be developed in the coming months.
Minister Aslam also revealed that construction will begin for more than 5,000 housing units across the Maldives within the ongoing year.
Speaking at the event, Minister Aslam remarked that the population of the Maldives was divided into classes based on their income. He added that persons of all classes required housing, and that different projects would be undertaken to ensure a range of affordable housing units, along with luxury apartments for those in the upper income class. Minister Aslam asserted that the Solih administration would be launching housing schemes for Maldivians based on various categories in the future.
