With a total of 7,556 beds, 414 guesthouses are currently operational across the Maldives.

Latest statistics publicized by the Ministry of Tourism revealed that the archipelago nation, a popular holiday destination among zealous travelers, currently has 715 operational tourist accommodation establishments with a total of 47,155 operational tourist beds.

153 resorts have resumed operations since the island nation reopened borders for international travel, with 35,442 beds. This means that two more resorts began operating over the past week.

Currently, 11 hotels are operating with 1,458 beds and 137 liveaboard vessels will 2,699 operational beds.

Of the 414 operational guesthouses across the Maldives by April 23, 174 guesthouses have resumed operations in Kaafu atoll.

This means that over the past week, two more resorts and eight more guesthouses had opened doors to tourists.

Of the total facility-capacity eight resorts, 287 guesthouses and hotels are yet to resume operations.

Over the past week, five more guesthouses resumed operations in Kaafu atoll, an additional two guesthouses opened doors to tourists in Alif Alif atoll, two more in Baa atoll and one more in Alif Dhaal atoll.

Guesthouses currently in operation are:

  • Eight guesthouses in two islands of Haa Alif atoll,
  • Three guesthouses in Haa Dhaal atoll,
  • One guesthouse in Shaviyani atoll,
  • One guesthouse in Noonu atoll,
  • One guesthouse in Lhaviyani atoll,
  • 23 guesthouses in eight islands of Baa atoll,
  • 174 guesthouses in 10 islands of Kaafu atoll,
  • 91 guesthouses in eight islands of Alif Alif atoll,
  • 46 guesthouses in eight islands of Alif Dhaal atoll,
  • 34 guesthouses in four islands of Vaavu atoll,
  • One guesthouse in Meemu atoll,
  • One guesthouse in Faafu atoll,
  • One guesthouse in Thaa atoll,
  • One guesthouse in Gaaf Alif atoll,
  • Two guesthouses in one island of Laamu atoll,
  • Three guesthouses in three islands of Gaaf Dhaal atoll,
  • 15 guesthouses in Fuvahmulah City,
  • Eight guesthouses in four islands of Seenu atoll.

By Friday, Maldives tourist arrivals for the year had been pushed to a total of 369,841.

Maldives reopened borders on 15 July 2020, nearly four months since borders were closed and at first, resorts and liveaboard vessels were given the green light to begin operations. Guesthouses outside of the Greater Malé Region were permitted to resume operations on 15 October 2020. Authorities allowed the reopening of guesthouses in the capital region on 14 December 2020.
