The government of the United Kingdom is exploring a range of options to secure green financing to aid efforts by the Maldivian government, towards a cleaner, renewable energy generation, says Ranil Jayawardena.

Jayawardena, the Parliamentary Under-Secretary of Department for International Trade of the UK made this remark while answering questions posed at the UK Parliament on April 13 regarding trade with and investment in the Maldives fishing industry as well as the provision of export opportunities for tuna fishermen in the island nation through an Economic Partnership Agreement.

As such, the Parliamentary Under-Secretary of Department for International Trade highlighted that officials are presently exploring “pragmatic options” to endorse enhanced trade and investment with Maldives, described by Jayawardena as an important partner for the UK.

He went on to note that opportunities to enhance bilateral trade with Maldives in areas of mutual interest are also being explored. Some of these include on defense, food and drink, education, health and fitness, environmental science as well as sustainable development.

As such, the UK is exploring a range of options for collaboration with the Maldives, in financial services as well as infrastructural development.

With this being said, Jayawardena went on to add that the government of UK intends to collaborate with the Maldives in financial services and infrastructure development as well.
