The Health Protection Agency (HPA) has confirmed the death of a bedridden 93-year-old local man who was administered the Covishield vaccine on 17 February.
Health authorities confirmed that the elderly man had multiple underlying health conditions due to advanced age, and that he had been bedridden for 10 years prior to receiving the Covishield vaccine.
The man was administered the Covishield vaccine on 17 February under the national Covid-19 vaccination programme.
HPA confirmed the elderly man's passing in a tweet on Friday, and have announced that a full investigation is now underway to confirm the cause of death, which is the protocol determined for such cases. The results of this investigation are to be shared with the public as soon as it is complete.
HPA noted in their tweet that serious events including death can occur unrelated to the vaccine.
