Covid-19 cases continue to increase in southernmost Addu and Fuvahmulah cities.

With Times of Addu reporting an additional two new cases to last night’s reported 58, a total of 60 positive cases of Covid-19 have been identified from Addu City.

Two persons tested positive for Covid-19 from Addu City on Sunday, who had come into contact with positive cases from the Aviation Security Command Training cluster. Including Sunday's additional positive cases, the Aviation Security Command Training cluster has grown to 35, with 22 people testing positive from Hithadhoo, nine positive cases from Feydhoo and four positive cases from Maradhoo-Feydhoo.

The rest of the positive cases from Addu City correspond to 25 expat workers who contracted Covid-19 from an MTCC development site in the city.

While Addu City has been placed under monitoring with 60 positive cases having been detected from the island, four persons have been admitted in hospital for care. Health authorities continue contact tracing efforts on the island, and random sampling has also been initiated in the city to identify the severity of community transmissions.

In addition to this, 16 persons have contracted the Covid-19 infection from Fuvahmulah City. Health authorities confirmed community transmission on the island last week, and over 40 persons have been identified as direct contacts of positive cases. Authorities in Fuvahmulah have classified a further 620 persons as at risk of infection after having come into close contact with positive cases of Covid-19.

Both the cities of Addu and Fuvahmulah remain under a state of monitoring, and health authorities have implemented restrictions to travel, gatherings and business operations in the cities to control the spread of Covid-19.
