Authorities have extended the vehicle movement restriction in capital Male’ City, in addition to announcing a curfew in Fuvahmulah City.
The Health Protection Agency (HPA) announced an extension to the vehicle movement restriction in Male' City on Friday, with the ban on land vehicles extended by four and a half hours, to 6pm and 6am effective immediately.
Those exempt from this restriction include Police and MNDF personnel, health service employees on land vehicles such as ambulances, in addition to those with clearance from the Health Emergency Operations Center (HEOC) and those requiring emergency medical attention.
Further, HPA has gazetted an order imposing a curfew and vehicle movement restriction in Fuvahmulah City from 8pm to 4am following a spike in Covid-19 cases, in a bid to curb the spread of the virus.
Maldives has seen a spike in coronavirus infections recently, with over one hundred cases reported almost daily since January 24.
This led to authorities reintroducing the night-time curfew in the capital, which was extended on February 3.
Authorities have not only increased safety measures in the capital, a nationwide mask mandate came into effect on February 7.
Further, a curfew was imposed in Addu City earlier this week.
