An additional 100 people tested positive for Covid-19 in the Maldives on Wednesday, out of 3,705 samples tested by authorities for the infection.
With this, a total of 17,201 persons have contracted the virus in the Maldives thus far, out of which 2,160 are active cases. 75 of Wednesday 100 new cases were from the Greater Male' region, 10 from inhabited islands and 15 cases detected from operational resorts. As of 6pm Wednesday, 214 persons are receiving in-hospital care for the infection, which is 10 more than the previous day.
An additional 156 recoveries from Covid-19 were reported by sundown on Wednesday, bringing the total number of people who have recovered from the virus in the Maldives up to 14,978. Four people have died from Covid-19 in the on-going month of February alone, and a total of 56 people have died in the Maldives from health complications brought on from the virus.
The Maldives' Covid-19 outlook continues to worsen as more new cases are being reported everyday, especially in the congested capital of Male'. Authorities have warned that the nation's already strained healthcare system could become overburdened if the spread of the virus is not controlled.
The Health Emergency Operations Center (HEOC) encourages all members of the public to practice caution in adhering to the health and safety regulations set forth by the Health Protection Agency (HPA), in their efforts to control this spread of the virus.
