The Civil Service Commission (CSC) has appointed Yazeed Ahmed as the Chief Executive of the Utility Regulatory Authority, established under the the Utility Regulatory Authority Act which defines general guidelines, plans and procedures in the provision of utility services in the Maldives.

Prior to his appointment, Ahmed Yazeed served as the Director for the Utility Regulatory Authority. According to law, the Chief Executive of the Utility Regulatory Authority is charged with ensuring that daily operations continue as per the authority's legal mandate.

The Ministry of Environment and Energy has revealed that Minister Dr. Hussain Rasheed Hassan met with Ahmed Yazeed following his appointment as the Chief Executive in order to encourage and support his upcoming endeavors at the Utility Regulatory Authority. Dr. Hussain Rasheed Hassan has expressed hopes that under Yazeed's leadership, significant progress will be made in regulating essential utilities in the Maldives.

Yazeed Ahmed has a distinguished record of public service, having worked over 17 years in the government, 12 of which were spent in senior positions. Notably, Yazeed Ahmed has previously served as the Director of the Environment Protection Agency (EPA).

With an educational background in environment, water and sewerage through civil engineering, Yazeed is a holder of a Masters degree in the field as he assumes the responsibilities of Chief Executive at the Utility Regulatory Authority.
