Minister for Islamic Affairs Dr. Ahmed Zahir will compete against Home Minister Imran Abdulla for the post of Adhaalath Party's President in the party's internal elections set to be held on 30 January.

Adhaalath Party (AP) announced that two candidates had applied to compete for the position of President within the party at the close of the application deadline on January 21.

Current President of AP and Minister for Home Affairs Sheikh Imran Abdulla, is set to compete against the Minister for Islamic Affairs Dr. Ahmed Zahir for the post of AP's President in the party's internal elections scheduled for 30 January. Ahmed Shareef will compete for the position of AP's Vice-President as Minister Imran's running mate, and Ahmed Nasheed will compete for Vice-President on the same ticker as Dr. Zahir as his running mate.

AP recently amended their internal procedure to allow women to compete for leadership positions within the party following complaints from members. Further, AP's internal elections for the year 2021 are going to be held online in light of difficulties presented to in-person voting by the Covid-19 pandemic.

The list of those who are eligible to vote in AP's internal elections have now been publicized, with members having a deadline until January 27 to present complaints to the voter's list.
