Covid-19: over 300 contacts identified from wedding reception cluster
 
This comes at a time HPA has been urging to strictly adhere to Covid-19 safety guidelines and measures in place

100 Covid-19 cases were reported between 24 December 2020 - 14 January 2021

Health officials have identified a total of 300 contacts from the wedding reception cluster; which surfaced in late December 2020.

Speaking to press on Thursday, the Health Emergency Operations Center (HEOC)’s Head of Contact Tracing Cluster, Aminath Aroosha revealed that 100 cases were reported within the cluster, from the period between 24 December 2020 and 14 January 2021.

Out of the 100 cases belonging to the cluster, 68 were attendants of the wedding reception and 30 family members and roommates of the attendants have been identified as contacts.

Further, HEOC revealed that two individuals who were workmates of the attendants had also tested positive for Covid-19.

The cluster was identified after a wedding reception hosted at SHE Building on December 24. High-risk patients and small children were among the new infections. It came not long after Health Protection Agency (HPA) permitted gatherings and ceremonies in the capital.

At a time cases have once again begun snowballing, authorities continue stressing on the importance of adherence to Covid-19 safety guidelines and instructions in order to effectively curb the spread of the pandemic.

HPA pushed the public to host ceremonies and events in accordance with the safety guidelines, in this regard. As such, individuals attending ceremonies as well as the hosts have been urged to enforce the use of face masks, social distancing as well as other measures in place.
