The Traffic Management Department of Maldives Police Service (MPS), in collaboration with Allied Insurance, have inaugurated "Rakka" Road Show 2020 with the first event set for January 2021.
Their first event, the "Rakka" road safety virtual run will be held from 8-31 January. Registration is open until December 31, and first 950 registrations will get a free medal, certificate and T-Shirt after completing run.
The announcements were made at a press briefing held by Police and Allied Insurance at Iskandhar Building, on Monday morning.
Speaking at the press conference, police's Head of Traffic Management Department, Superintendent Hussain Sameer said that MPS and Allied had been organizing the "Rakka" Road Show every year since 2014 in order to better familiarize the public with road safety, but that they had faced various obstacles in the past two years which prevented them from hosting the show and related activities.
He went on to say that this year's show would see a range of events organized in the Greater Male' Area and different atolls to improve the public's knowledge regarding traffic laws and road safety.
General Manager for Allied Insurance Ahmed Saqib also spoke at the press briefing, highlighting the importance of this project in informing the public about the possibility of dangerous road accidents, adding that Allied is a company that was always looking for the best avenues through which to conduct their Corporate Social Responsibilities in the most beneficial way possible.
Saqib stressed that this was a critical campaign to help improve road safety across cities and islands of the Maldives, expressing Allied's commitment in working with the police service to execute the campaign nationwide.
Mohamed Naeem, Sub-Inspector of Police and Head of the Unit got Toad Safety in the MPS Traffic Management Department said that in addition to the "Rakka" Road Safety Run, the program would also involve the dissemination of informative clips and media content regarding potentially dangerous road accidents in collaboration with their media partners.
