Opposition Progressive Coalition hosted their "Visnaa" rally in the carnival area, on Saturday night.

The assemblage was dedicated to fishermen, farmers, taxi drivers, youth and resort workers, and punctuated by addresses from leaders of the Progressive Coalition which comprises of former ruling Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) and the People's National Congress (PNC).

Speaking at the event, PNC President Abdul Raheem Abdulla directed heavy criticism to the current administration.

He also highlighted the endurance of opposition leader, former President Abdulla Yaamen in serving his prison sentence, saying that Yaamen would remain in prison indefinitely if needed for the people's sake without wavering in his convictions.

Advisor to the Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) and former Vice-President, Dr. Mohamed Jameel Ahmed also addressed the audience, denouncing the Solih administration's efforts at catalyzing Judicial Reform and assailing former president and Speaker of Parliament, Mohamed Nasheed with polarized attacks during his speech.

Jameel went on to say that the current Transitional Justice Bill was crafted by the government in favor of certain parties, and that the next PPM presidency would see the bill implemented in its fullest form. He claimed that should the principles of the Transitional Justice Bill be properly realized, Speaker Nasheed "may very well have to spend 1,000 years in prison".

Ghassan Maumoon, Vice-President of PPM and MP for Guraidhoo constituency, also spoke at the rally, affirming that the PNC Coalition would attain majority of the seats in the upcoming Local Council Elections by blocking all avenues of success for the ruling party MDP.

Ghassan - who is the son of one of the leaders of the ruling coalition, former President Maumoon Abdul Gauoom - also alleged, without tangible evidence, that the country would "fail" should candidates of main ruling Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) claim a majority victory in the Local Council Elections under their "Rahvehi Fathis" campaign.

Former President Nasheed, who is the leader of MDP, said that the party aims to win over 50 percent of the seats in the upcoming council elections, noting their overwhelming majority at last year's parliamentary elections.
