The Civil Court has ruled that Musab Abdulla termination as permanent secretary to the Ministry of Islamic Affairs was lawful.
Musab had filed a case against the Civil Service Commission (CSC) at the court claiming wrongful termination, and seeking compensation for the losses due to the dismissal which was followed by a five-year suspension.
The court concluded the case last Thursday, with presiding Judge Ali Abdulla ruling that his dismissal was handled as per laws and regulations, and that CSC was not required to reinstate him.
Highlighting that Musab was fired for violating the Civil Service Act, the judge noted that the commission had received numerous work-related complaints against him during his time as acting financial executive at the ministry.
The cases against him include paying wages to an individual not employed by the ministry, failing to sign agreements with employees under contract yet giving them salaries as well as sharing a confidential government document on social media.
Musab was appointed as the permanent secretary to the Islamic Ministry in July 2017, during jailed former President Abdulla Yameen’s government. Prior to this, he filled the role of first secretary for the Maldivian Embassy in Abu Dhabi.
He was fired from the post on 10th September 2019.
Permanent Secretaries are the highest-ranking officials from CSC, in any institution.
