The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) is seeking charges against former Assistant Managing Director of Addu City Hithadhoo Ports Limited, Mohamed Rasheed, at the Prosecutor General’s Office (PGO).
Rasheed is accused of misusing his official position to gain undue benefits during the now incarcerated former president Abdulla Yameen’s presidential campaign.
As such, a memo addressed to the company’s Assistant Human Resources Manager on June 19, 2018 notes that Rasheed requested the company to release 16 of their employees for “matters related to the company” from June 21, 2018.
While 12 of these employees were on release dated between July and September, investigations indicate that the employees received their salaries and allowances for the release period as well.
ACC’s findings go on to indicate that the “release” was given to employees during the presidential elections, against the compiled procedure. As such, although the employees on release had not attended office during the period, Rasheed had instructed the company’s IT employees to amend Hithadhoo Ports Limited’s attendance system to show that they had clocked in to work.
This, the anti-corruption watchdog stated is against the Anti-Corruption Act and in light of this, the commission has sought charges against Rasheed, who was also among those released by the company for the aforementioned period.
