Swift and inexpensive alternatives offered by experienced arbitrators for disputes stemming from business dealings and civic duties will bring an end to the culture of seeking solutions through court, says Attorney General Ibrahim Riffath.
AG Riffath’s remarks come at a time the Maldives International Arbitration Center (MIAC) announced commencement of Arbitration Services on Tuesday.
In a statement on Tuesday, the center announced the formal commencement of its services in matters of arbitration in accordance with Act No. 10/2013 (Arbitration Act of Maldives).
Following the announcement, the opportunity to submit cases to MIAC through their website has now been opened to interested individuals.
In addition, MIAC also revealed that they provide options for arbitral proceedings to be conducted online via integrated virtual services.
The center described the initiation of the virtual facilities at MIAC as instrumental in ensuring broader access to services.

Some of the notable highlights for MIAC since inception in April 2019 include the establishment of a register of renowned and experiences arbitrators, the introduction of a fully-functional portal for automated case-management as well as the publication of MIAC Arbitration Rules.
MIAC expressed keenness to provide “efficient” and “effective” services and ensuring stakeholder confidence when providing services.
