Maldives Meteorological Service has urged caution as the low pressure over the southeast regions from Maldives in the Indian Ocean intensifies due to Cyclone Burevi.

The department issued an advisory on Wednesday night, highlighting that the tropical cyclone has entered the eastern coast of Sri Lanka. It is likely to move west-northwestwards and emerge into Comorin area on Thursday morning.

In this regard, the department has predicted scattered rain with a few heavy showers and thunderstorms across the Maldives over the next 24 hours.

In addition to generally rough seas throughout the country, MMS revealed that surface winds have been expected from west and northwesterly at 13-23 miles per hour with winds gusting 45 miles per hour during showers.

Maldives Meteorology has revealed that timely updates regarding the situation surrounding Cyclone Burevi will be provided by the department.

MMS urged caution and for the people to follow weather alerts and forecasts over the weekend.

On Tuesday, the department predicted severe weather across the island nation over the course of the weekend due to the depression in southeast Trincomalee, Sri Lanka as well as Bengal.
