The Maldives Meteorological Service (MMS) has predicted severe weather conditions in the country over the course of the weekend.
In an advisory issued on Tuesday, the department revealed that they are closely monitoring the situation surrounding the depression in southeast Trincomalee, Sri Lanka which has been estimated to intensify into a cyclone storm over the next 24 hours.
International media reports that the depression in the southeast of Bengal has triggered a cyclone warning and is 500 kilometers southeast to Trincomalee, and is expected to move west-northwestward and cross-eastern coast of Sri Lanka on Wednesday.
Following this, MMS has predicted strong winds and rough seas across Maldives starting Thursday and throughout the weekend.
The department has promised to keep the public updates on the weather advisories and alerts through messages, as usual.
