Parliament extends ongoing session

Session extended until December 7

The People’s Majlis has passed to extend the ongoing third session of the year.

Speaker Mohamed Nasheed announced the intention to extend the term until December 7, at the start of Sunday’s sitting.

Noting that there are some important work pending, Nasheed said that the purpose of the extension is to conclude these works.

While a vote was taken in the afternoon, 48 MPs voted in favour of extending the session to December 7 while one was against. There was one abstention as well.

As per parliamentary regulations, the third session of the year will convene from October 1 to the end of November.

The People’s Majlis’ is currently working on the Police Service Bill as well as Bill on Amendment to the Tourism Act. They have yet to approve a state budget for the upcoming year as well.
