Maldives reported 27 new coronavirus cases on Friday; 17 locals and 10 foreigners.
While these were from the 1,256 samples tested within 24 hours, 24 of the cases were detected from the greater Male’ region while three are from other islands or resorts.
This pushes the country’s Covid-19 total to 12,112. However, with 11,244 recoveries and 41 deaths confirmed, there are currently 820 active cases in the island nation.
In addition to the capital region, there are active cases in nine inhabited islands and 25 resorts including 55 tourists and 133 staff members.
Patients admitted at hospitals for treatment remain the same as the previous day; 52.
Maldives first Covid-19 cases were confirmed from a resort back in March. A community transmission was detected in the capital city in mid-April, which led to a city-wide lockdown as well as a partial lockdown across the country with travel between islands banned. The lockdown easing began in late May, and there was a second surge in cases after the country entered the third phase of lockdown easing. The country started seeing lower numbers in September.
