A majority of Covid-19 cases detected on Sunday was discovered from outlying islands.

The Health Protection Agency (HPA) confirmed 42 new Covid-19 cases by 6pm, Sunday.

The new cases include 23 foreigners and 19 Maldivians and pushes the total number of coronavirus cases in the island nation to 11,701.

A majority of the new cases were confirmed from residential islands, at 22 and the remaining 20 were detected in the greater Malé region.

Sunday’s cases were confirmed out of the 1,920 samples tested between 6pm Saturday and 6pm Sunday.

Further, 69 additional recoveries were also reported on Sunday. With this development, the country has seen a total of 10,883 recoveries thus far.

While Maldives had 800 active coronavirus cases on Saturday, the number dropped to 773 by sundown on Sunday.

There are 243 patients seeking treatment at isolation facilities whereas 51 patients are hospitalized for treatment. This is four patients less than the previous day.

The pandemic has taken 38 lives in the country thus far.
