In order to drive the country’s socio-economic progress, the community needs to adapt the practices and courageous example set by the early Islamic community, says President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.

In his address to the people of Maldives in commemoration of Mawlid al-Nabi, also known as the day commemorating the birth of Prophet Muhammad (PBU), Solih extended his felicitations to the public and to Muslim leaders and communities worldwide, on this blessed occasion.

The president noted that the Muslim community must learn from the examples set by the early Islamic community.

Highlighting that the day must be used to reflect on one of the greatest blessings bestowed upon earth through Allah’s messenger, Muhammad Rasūl Allāh Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam, the revelation of the Islamic faith, Solih added that the occasion proves to be an opportune time to spread Islamic values and principle such as enhancing bonds between families.

He also urged the people to take the opportunity to promote justice and compassion as well as kindness and assistance to one another.

The president went on to encourage the Muslim community to nurture Islam in their hearts by practicing the values and principles taught by Prophet Muhammad.

Muslim communities across the globe began celebrating the birth anniversary of the prophet, as early as Wednesday, to Thursday. Mawlid is celebrated in the third month of the Muslim lunar calendar, Rabi' al-Awwal.
