Earlier in the year, there had been a public outcry over news that the government was planning to sell an entire atoll to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The agreement was to be made official during King Salman’s visit to the Maldives in March. However, a day before he was due in Maldives, it was announced that the trip was postponed “due to the recent H1N1 outbreak across the country”.
